After taking a six-year hiatus, actress Zhao Wei is back in the TV showbiz with her role in Chinese TV series ‘Tiger Mom’. The new series explores the challenges of raising a child in modern day China, along with love and relationship within and out of the family. The roles of on-screen couple Bi Shengnan and Luo Su are taken on by renowned actors Zhao Wei and Tong Dawei respectively.
Zhao Wei and co-star Wang Sen, together with Executive Producer of Tiger Mom, Huang Lan, was in Singapore recently to promote the TV series.

In this 45-part drama, we see Bi with a Type-A personality – driven, focused and mostly competitive. She contrasts heavily against Luo, who is a more docile “cat” dad in their methods to get their daughter get her best foot forward in life. Conflict between the two ensures when they discover a big gap between their parenting methods. Bi will go all out to move house to a choice school (reminiscence of Mencius’ mother in a famous Chinese parable), and even take time off work to home-tutor her daughter.
When asked about her real-life parenting methods, Zhao affirmed in Mandarin that she has not made any decision that is similar to Bi’s, and that she has “learnt a lot about parenting from doing this drama (series)”.
