As a law student, pouring through endless readings and notes form part of my everyday routine. As such, I have always found it important to have a pair of comfortable contact lenses to tide me through the late nights of studying.
However, I often had difficulty finding a pair of lenses that was suitable for my eyes. Most of the time, my eyes often felt too dry from wearing contact lenses. As a result, I could barely wear lenses for long hours. So when Hirocon offered me a chance to have my vision checked to find a suitable lens, I welcomed the opportunity.
Hirocon is a retail store selling contact lenses only and is centrally located right at orchardgateway. This is definitely ideal for anyone who happens be around town, and wants to get a quick eye check-up done or purchase any lenses.
When I first arrived at the store, I was greeted by rows and rows of different brands of contact lenses and smiles of friendly service staff. Upon registration, I was advised to get my eyes checked by manager/optometrist, Jed, at the Refraction Room to find out which lenses were suitable for my use.
My experience was rather different from the other eyecare retail stores that I had visited. Previously, I have always been under the impression that eye check-ups were only done for the purposes of checking one’s myopia level. The fact that the suitability of lens for my use was also being checked greatly impressed me.
One thing which sets this store apart from others is that there are lockers for customers to place their bags and belongings. This was to provide customers with a comfortable experience while having their eyes checked, without needing to worry about the safety of their belongings. It’s a small gesture, but a really thoughtful one in my opinion.
What I had really liked about Hirocon was how thorough the eye check-up was conducted. From my past experiences, eye check-ups were often conducted brusquesly – performing one or two tests and then, done. However, here at Hirovision, the check-up had three stages. First, a slit lamp was used to examine the front surface of my eye for any possible infections. Second, a series of alphabets or numbers were shown on a screen to test my ability to view them clearly. Third, a standalone lens was used to check the peripheral vision of my eyes.
After conducting these tests, Jed immediately determined my prescription and advised me on my eye health. Given my tendency to have dry eyes, he recommended me CooperVision’s Proclear 1 Day contact lenses to help me eradicate this problem of mine.
When I first tried out these lenses, the lenses indeed felt moist and comfortable to my eyes. I even decided to experiment further by wearing them for 12 hours straight. To my surprise, the lenses remained extremely comfortable throughout the night and did not exhibit any signs of dryness at any point in time. The material used in Proclear 1 Day contact lenses stays 96% hydrated even after 12 hours of wear.
I would highly recommend anyone frequently facing problems of dry eyes CooperVision’s Proclear 1 Day lenses. Proclear is the only lens material cleared by the US FDA for the claim: The lenses may provide improved comfort for contact lens wearers who experience mild discomfort or symptoms related to dryness during lens wear associated with Evaporative Tear Deficiency or from Aqueous Tear Deficiency (non-Sjogren’s only).
If you would like to try CooperVision’s Proclear 1 Day lenses, you can easily get them at Hirocon ($60 per box). If you would like to go one step further to ensure your suitability for these lenses, you can also request for a thorough eye check-up to be conducted. The eye check-up typically costs S$80, but it is complimentary with purchase of lenses. What’s more, all the optometrists at Hirocon are certified professionals with university qualifications.
Overall, my experience at Hirocon was an excellent one. Jed was extremely detailed throughout the eye check-up, explaining to me the rationale for each particular stage of tests and would even patiently answer any of my queries along the way. The other service staff were also extremely welcoming, greeting other customers as they entered the shop and ensuring that their experience was similarly a great one. I think I have just found a new place to go to for my eyecare needs.
