Kata M3: The Latest Kid in Town

0

There’s a new smartphone brand in town. Kata Digital, a US brand, has joined the already-intense competition in the hot smartphone market and recently launched its smartphones in Singapore.

For those not familiar with the brand, Kata was first set up in the United States in 2010. It is fast becoming a top manufacturer of affordable smartphones and tablets, giving value-priced China brands like Xiaomi and Oppo a run for their money. Kata has based its regional headquarters in Singapore since late last year and has set its sights on extending its presence to other Asian countries such as Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Kata is not an entire stranger to Asia. The smartphone brand already has presence in Hong Kong and the Philippines with a total of 48 standalone stores. In fact, it enjoys a strong following in the Philippines – the Kata Philippines Facebook page alone has more than 1.5 million fans to date.

Kata has recently unveiled the M3 – a new feature-packed phablet phone, which follows the success of its predecessor M1 and M2 models. The M3 is the phablet model of Kata’s smartphones. We were among the first few in Singapore to test the new smartphone.

The Kata M3 has a 5.5-inch display screen which makes it ideal for watching movies and TV shows on it.

In terms of aesthetics, the M3 sports a relatively big 5.5-inch super HD display with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. I personally call that “relatively big” because my palms are more used to smaller phones all these years. The big screen would definitely be appreciated by those who enjoy watching movies and TV shows on their mobile phones.

Being one who is into photography, I decided to put the M3’s 16-megapixel rear camera to the test. I brought the device to a watch event I attended and used it to take shots of some watches. For a smartphone, I would say the photos turned out to be pretty crisp and sharp, much to my pleasant surprise.

At S$368, I would consider it affordable and reasonably priced for a smartphone packed full of features. It would be ideal as a primary phone for the budget-conscious. In my case, I would use it as a secondary phone as I usually require one during my travels.

Kata M3 Specifications:

  • 5.5 inch super HD display (1280 x 720)
  • MTK 6592 Octa Core 1.7GHz processor
  • OS: Android KitKat
  • 16GB storage and 2GB RAM
  • 16-megapixel main camera and 8-megapixel front camera
