On the evening of 16 April 2015, history was made when the biggest Star Wars fan event was held at Shaw Theatres Lido in Singapore.
The seventh movie in the franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is not due for release until December 2015, but it is clear that millions of fans, including those in Singapore, can hardly wait for the movie. I counted at least 100 fans and movie-lovers at the Star Wars fan event organised by The Walt Disney; every corner I turned, I was in face of menacing Stormtroopers, extremely young Jedi Padawans, and several rounds of Fightsaber.
The biggest highlight of the event was the live streaming of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens Panel” at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California.
That’s because, if you’re (still) living on Planet Earth, you’re in luck. The entire Star Wars Digital Movie Collection (read: all 6 movie episodes) is now available for pre-order on iTunes Singapore; you can supposedly purchase the content on May the 4th!
Everybody will be able to enjoy the Star Wars Saga on their favourite iDevices (or that glorious 5K iMac) on Star Wars Day.
If you’re stuck somewhere on Tatooine … well, do yourself a favour and hop on the nearest Star Cruiser and get back to Earth already!
DID YOU KNOW?
- In A New Hope, “asteroids” used in one of the chase scenes was actually real potatoes?
- C-3Po’s actor Anthony Daniels made a short cameo appearance (yes, the human operator) in the movie’s club scene behind Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker?
- Anakin Skywalker’s Podracer in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was created from an interesting collection of vehicles and props. The front of the shuttle, in which Anakin sits, was made from the shell of a 1960’s racing car called a Maserati Birdcage.
