We go to the airport for a handful of reasons – to take a flight, send our loved ones off or welcome our loved ones back. But to go to the airport to have high tea?

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport serves high tea every day from 2pm to 5pm at its serene Lobby Lounge. Each high tea set is good for two persons and there are two sets to choose from – the Sweet and Savoury (S$38++) and Sweet Selections (S$33++).

As the name suggests, the Sweet and Savoury set comprises both sweet and savoury canapés and bite-sized items. Being one who likes savoury items, I was pleased to find Ham and Cheese sandwiches, Mushroom and Onion Tarts, and Smoked Salmon and Spinach Quiche among the selections. The quiche was a personal favourite. For those who needs their sweet desserts, this set also comes with Chocolate Manjari Cakes, English Truffles, Fruit Tarts and Blueberry Scones with Lemon Curd.

The Sweet Selection set also offers English Truffles, Fruit Tarts and Chocolate Manjari Cakes. In place of the savoury items found in the other set, the Sweet Selection has Earl Grey Crème Brulee, Indonesian Layered Cakes, Profiteroles, Mini Cup Cakes and Apple Turnovers.

The high tea items at Crowne Plaza are paired with tea from Dilmah’s t-Series, a collection of tea selected from estates around the world known for their excellent quality in tea. You can choose from an eclectic collection of hand-picked tea from the Very Special Rare Tea range and the Gourmet Tea range. If you are not sure what tea to choose, fret not – the menu provides suggestions on tea pairings depending which high tea set you decide to go for.

If you have an insatiable sweet tooth, consider ordering some extra desserts to go with your high tea. The Blackforest Gateau (S$4.50 per piece) is a chocolate lover’s dream – chocolate mousse atop a sponge cake base.

The Macaron Lollipop is not only visually pleasing, but tastes delicious too. At $7.50 a pop, it comes coated with coloured rice balls and gold cereals. At the centre is a rich layer of red velvet cake. All the different ingredients came together to create a delightful dessert with different textures. This dessert might be a tad heavy so consider sharing it with your high tea companion.

The Macaron Lollipop looks too pretty to eat.

The Macaron a la Rose (S$6.50) is a dessert that holds surprises. A bite into it will reveal a lychee-flavoured centre. The rose and lychee flavours blend together beautifully and will surely be a crowd-pleaser.

Now you don’t have to wait till you have a flight or receive someone to go to the airport. Crowne Plaza Changi Airport’s high tea gives you one good reason to go there.
