Delta Air Lines Adds Quirkiness to Flying with New “Internet Memes” Safety Video

If Air New Zealand’s latest inflight safety video is the coolest safety video made by an airline, Delta Air Lines’ latest safety video probably wins the title of “Most Quirky Safety Video”.

Internet memes are the stars of the American carrier’s new safety video, which will start playing on Delta flights from 25 May 2015. The video is a mash-up of 25 Internet memes including Dancing Baby, Overly Attached Girlfriend and Annoying Orange. Filmed on an Airbus A330-200 in a hangar at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the video was shot over a period of more than 20 hours.

“We had a ton of fun with this one, and we think our customers will, too,” Mauricio Parise, Delta’s director of Worldwide Marketing Communication, says in a statement. “Internet fame is fleeting, but our commitment to the safety of our customers and crew is not. These memes and cameos tap into the zeitgeist as the latest way of capturing our customers’ attention for our important safety presentation.”

Delta began launching a series of safety videos meant to grab the attention of even the most seasoned travelers by using pop culture references, surprises and guest appearances in late 2012 – all to communicate important safety messages.
