Gelato World Tour Makes Its Asian Debut in Singapore

Italians take their food seriously, and this extends to even gelato, the much-loved Italian dessert. It is this same passion that gave rise to the Gelato World Tour, which starts today in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands.

Dubbed the “Formula One of Gelato”, the competition will see 16 new and seasoned from Asia-Pacific pitting their skills against one another in a quest to win the coveted title of “World’s Best Gelato”. Visitors to the free-entry event will get to sample the gelato flavours freshly created by the competing artisans and vote for their favourite flavour with a Gelato Ticket, which can be purchased at the Gelato World Tour Village. Each Gelato Ticket, priced at S$12, is good for eight tasting portions.

Other activities at the Gelato World Tour Village include mini courses for both adults and children to learn the art of creating gelato, how to become a gelato artisan, and tips on designing a successful gelato shop.

Into its second edition, the Gelato World Tour is an international touring gelato competition, aimed at promoting the artisan gelato’s culture worldwide. It is directed by the prestigious Carpigiani Gelato University, and Sigep, host of the world’s most important exhibition for traditional gelato and confectionery held in Rimini, Italy. Having taken Europe, North America, the Middle East and Oceania by storm last year, the touring competition in Singapore is its first foray into Asia.

After Singapore, the Gelato World Tour will travel next to Komazawa Park in Tokyo, Japan in September 2015.

The Gelato World Tour takes place from today till 22 March 2015 at Marina Bay Sands Singapore, Convention Centre.
