Pawsitively Good – Singapore Beer Brewers Make Dog Biscuits from Spent Grain to Help Dog Shelters

Some say dogs are a man’s best friend. Others say beer is a man’s best friend. Singapore craft breweries – Specific Gravity Beverage Company and Lion Brewery – evidently champion both camps because they have just launched a “paw-some” initiative.

Called “Unleash the Love” campaign, the initiative arose out of a collaboration between the two breweries to make a limited-edition Vienna Lager and use the spent grain to make dog biscuits. The dog biscuits are made by dog treat company The Barkery, which came up with a recipe using lean minced pork, spent grain and cinnamon for the dog biscuits called Porkies.

The fun doesn’t end there.

With the objective of raising money for dog charities, Specific Gravity Beverage Company and Thirty Six Brewlab and Smokehouse will donate S$1 for every Instagram post of pet owners enjoying the Unleashed Vienna Lager with their pet or of the owner with their dog enjoying Porkies, using the hashtag #unleashthelovesg and/or tagging @sgbevco, @lionbreweryco and/or @thirtysix_sg.

Proceeds from this campaign will go to two animal welfare organisations – Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD) and Causes For Animals (Singapore). The Barkery will also donate 20% of sales for every purchase of 100g of Porkies.

“We love beer and we love dogs. How great is it that we can make one and help the other?” said Kim Wong of Specific Gravity Beverage Company.

The biscuits are available for sale at The Barkery, 326 Joo Chiat Road Singapore 427583. Vienna Lager is available at www.sgbevco.com, as well as various bars/restaurants including LINO, UB3 Bistro, Ziggy Zaggy and Smith Street Taps.
