Shoppers who mourned when department store Robinsons Singapore drew its shutters in January 2021 can rejoice again. All is not lost because the 163-year retailer is making a comeback – this time as an integrated online department store.
With its head office based in Singapore, Robinsons Online – as the new online platform is called – will go live on 24 June 2021. It has been acquired by wholesale supplier Canningvale Australia and will be led by Jordan Prainito, former managing director of Canningvale Australia.
“I’m excited to be relaunching such an iconic brand. The brand has a rich history, and it strongly resonates with Singaporean and South-east Asian customers. It just needs to be catapulted into the 21st century,” said Prainito.
“We’ll apply the learnings from Canningvale’s digital transformation, where we saw e-commerce sales increase tenfold in under five years.”
The new online department store will offer over 200 specially curated brands, including some homegrown brands. Robinsons Online will also feature collaborations that will be launched exclusively on the platform.
