Following its triumphant season run London’s West End, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical Cats comes to the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands from 17 December 2019.
Based on T.S. Elliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Rum Tum Tugger, Mr Mistloffelees, Macavity and more come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. They each tell their stories to entertain their wise old benevolent leader, Old Deuteronomy, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
Cats made its premiere in the New London Theatre in 1981 and is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history. Having broken many records over 9,000 performances in a span of 21 years at the New Long Theatre, this ground-breaking production was the winner of the prestigious Olivier Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. This world-renowned Broadway production also bagged seven Tony awards, including Best Musical, in 1983.
Since its world premiere, Cats has been presented in over 30 countries, translated into 15 languages and seen by more than 81 million people worldwide. Both the original London and Broadway cast recordings have won Grammy Awards for Best Cast Album.
The musical score, composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, includes the hit song ‘Memory’, which has been recorded by over 150 artists from Barbra Streisand and Johnny Mathis to Liberace and Barry Manilow
Featuring a fantastical oversized set, a superb score, inspiring choreography and mischievous costumes, Cats is a brilliant musical that should not be missed.
