Hotel Mercure Bucharest, Romania: A Stay Beyond Expectation

0

Seeing as many sights as possible — when it comes to travelling, this is what I live by. But, to achieve this, convenience is key, which means the location of your hotel or accommodation is important. During a recent trip to Bucharest in Romania, we chose to stay at Hotel Mercure Bucharest City Centre for its location and found out we got more than expected.

Check-in

It was a short drive from the airport to the hotel, about 15 minutes. When we arrived at the hotel, we were rather surprised to find the lobby relatively empty, considering that the hotel is located in the heart of Bucharest. Well, we weren’t complaining though; peace and quietness are always welcome at hotels. Perhaps it’s because Bucharest is not quite on the radar of many tourists yet. After all, we did decide on visiting Bucharest because it is not touristy.

The check-in process was fast, easy and fuss-free. Our room – a Superior Room with twin beds – was spacious and featured a white-walled space with oak furniture, earthy colours and two plush single sized beds. The designs in the room were simple yet classy.

All 114 rooms in Hotel Mercure Bucharest come with a safe, free wifi in the rooms (yes!), coffee and tea-making facilities and iron in the room. From my experience, many European hotels do not provide an iron in the room. This added convenience of having an iron was an extra plus point for me. It might be considered a small thing to some people, but it meant a lot to me as I am one who loves to have my clothes properly pressed, even when I travel.

Breakfast

Guests can opt for breakfast at the hotel for the very affordable price of just €9.90 per person. For such a price, you’ll probably be thinking that the spread will be meagre. But no, the breakfast buffet spread has a variety of breads, typical European breakfast food such as bacon, ham and a range of juices and beverages. The food was so good we had quite a few helpings. It’s important to start the day right with a hearty breakfast and we sure did with the hotel’s offerings!

Nearby Attractions

The Palace of Parliament, Old Town and Stavropoleos Church are some of the renowned attractions that Bucharest has to offer. Since Hotel Mercure Bucharest is located right in the heart of the city centre, we could easily walk to the attractions. On some days, we were a bit lazy and opted to take a quick five-minute taxi ride to the major attractions instead. Can I just add that the taxi rides in Bucharest are really cheap compared to other European cities?

We also found many interesting restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel. It was so easy for us to just walk out for a meal. We had a sumptuous Italian meal at Trattoria Don Vito near the hotel, and believe it or not, our meal worked out to just S$7 per person!

The Bottom Line

The excellent amenities, wide variety of food offered for breakfast and easy access to major attractions within Bucharest made Hotel Mercure Bucharest City Centre the perfect choice for a stay in Bucharest. Given a chance to visit Bucharest again, I would choose Hotel Mercure Bucharest City Centre in a heartbeat.
