One-for-One Buffet Deal at J65 at Hotel Jen Tanglin

Everytime someone mentions Hotel Jen to me, my immediate thought jumps to the prominent building located in the heart of Orchard Road at Orchard Gateway. Little did I know that there is a newly refurbished Hotel Jen Tanglin, just a stone’s throw away from Forum shopping mall. Recently, I paid a visit to the perhaps lesser-known Hotel Jen Tangling for a hearty buffet at J65 at Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore.

Once you step into Hotel Jen Tanglin, you cannot miss J65. J65 is rather spacious – even if it gets crowded, you will not have to squeeze with others in the buffet line. As for the seats, they are rather comfortable and I found myself enjoying the ambience of the place. Indeed, it was a nice place to have a meal yet it was quiet enough for me to catch up with my family and friends.

The variety of food available here is rather wide. You can expect to find salads, noodles, seafood, meats and not forgetting, the much needed desserts to end off your meal.

If you are a huge fan of salads, you will definitely like the huge variety that J65 has to offer. For starters, you may want to try the Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Salad or the Thai Prawn Salad for a nice start to your meal.

Being a huge sashimi lover, I went for the Japanese delights offered. The salmon sashimi here is really fresh, and most of the slices I ate were all thick and fatty slices of salmon belly. This was my favourite part of the meal. Apart from this, you can find your usual range of California Maki and assorted sushi available.

As for seafood, the variety offered is rather wide and you can find succulent prawns, crabs and oysters here. While the seafood was fresh and decent, you might want to lower your expectations as you may not see large prawns or huge, juicy oysters. But what I especially liked about J65 was their efficient service. As soon as food started running out, they would be almost immediately replenished.

Another unique offering about J65 is its D.I.Y. Yu Sheng, where you can select from various ingredients to create your very own Yu Sheng. More opportunities to enjoy greater prosperity and good fortune by tossing Yu Sheng? Sounds great to me.

Finally, the favourite part of my meal – desserts. The variety of cakes available are indeed aplenty. You can expect to find Hazelnut Chocolate Cakes, Yuzu Mousse Cake, Cupcakes, Pistachio Cake and many other sugary treats here.

As if cakes were simply not enough, there’s even ice cream. With flavours like Strawberry, Mango and Green Tea and various toppings like chocolate sprinkles and powdered sugar, you may find yourself transported to dessert heaven over here.

But wait, that’s not all. For those who love Singapore traditional desserts, you are in for a treat! There is a huge range of traditional kuehs for you to try from – my favourite has to be the ang ku kueh. However, if you would like to stay away from all these potentially calorie-laden desserts, you can even go for the more healthy option of fruits.

If all that food proves to be too much for you, you can wash them down with the homemade Iced Peach Tea and Iced Lemon Tea. There is even a counter for you to make your own coffee and Dilmah Teas.

Overall, I would say that J65 is a good place to enjoy a buffet in town with your friends or family. While it may not be the best buffet I have ever tried, I really liked the wide spread of food available and found it reasonably priced as well. At S$78 (inclusive of service charge and prevailing taxes) for dinner on a Saturday night, this is somewhere that you can consider trying out.

And if you have The Entertainer App, all the more you should give this place a try. You can get to enjoy one-for-one deals for J65’s Dinner Buffet and its Sunday Champagne Brunch (S$128 nett).
