Supper at the Rooftop

More often than not, late-night outings and drinking sessions meant post-drinks supper. During such times of late-night hunger pangs, I would crave for something greasy, savoury and most importantly local. There are only a selective few food areas that opens late, and those places are usually crowded or out of the way. By the time I settle down, get a seat and have the food in front of me, the hunger pangs would have evolved into boredom and sleepiness. I sure am delighted to discover that Screening Room at Ann Siang Road is giving me an additional supper option by bringing in local favourites from midnight to 2 am every Friday and Saturday.

My friend and I swung by Screening Room earlier this month to check out their new local dishes. The establishment promises to satisfy hungry night-owls with these local favourites to settle all the alcohol inside your system with their newly launched rooftop bar Supper Club by the Rooftop.

We got there around sunset and were greeted by a gorgeous view of the city at the rooftop. Ann Siang may not have views of the Singapore River nor views of the Marina Bay area but it has a beautiful heritage view of Chinatown and CBD, interlaced with old and modern buildings.

Supper Club by The Rooftop offers the following dishes to their existing menu every Friday and Saturday from midnight to 2am – Mutton Dum Biryani with Vegetable Relish, Mac and Cheese with Bacon, Beef Satay with spicy peanut sauce, BBQ chicken wings with calamansi and Maggi Mee Goreng with sunny-side-up egg. For the satay, I personally prefer mine to be either pork, chicken or mutton for that extra juicy factor but Screening Room’s beef version is also generous with the portions.

One little odd thing I found during my visit was there wasn’t music playing. Subsequently, I was told the establishment is in the midst of obtaining the license to allow for music to be played, since Ann Siang is considered a residential area. While it was a tad weird not to have music in the background, Supperclub is still a cozy place to hang out and catch up with friends.
