Her works are colourful, complex and explosive – anything but boring. And, they have captured the hearts of millions around the world. Now, you can see the iconic dots of internationally acclaimed artist Yayoi Kusama in Singapore.

National Gallery Singapore today unveils the highly anticipated exhibition showcasing the works of Yayoi Kusama. Titled YAYOI KUSAMA: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow, the first-in-Southeast-Asia exhibition features more than 120 works, including some new and never-been-seen pieces.

Visitors will get to see some of the artist’s signature pieces, such as her infinity net paintings and infinity mirror rooms. Kusama’s mirrored peep room, I WANT TO LOVE ON THE FESTIVAL NIGHT, is specially created for the Gallery. Her most recent works including the exhibition’s titular painting Life is the Heart of a Rainbow will also be displayed for the first time, alongside other recent works.

Visitors can trace the development of Kusama’s iconic themes and trace their formal and conceptual interconnections through her 70-year-long career. Her works span across different media from paintings, sculptures, collages and video to large-scale installations.

The exhibition is a collaboration between National Gallery Singapore and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), Brisbane, Australia. The show will travel to QAGOMA in November 2017 after Singapore.

YAYOI KUSAMA: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow will run from 9 June to 3 September 2017 at the Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery and City Hall Chamber, Level 3, City Hall Wing. For more details about the exhibition, visit www.nationalgallery.sg/yayoi-kusama.

  1. I would love to bring my love to the exhibition as her birthday is coming and this will definitely be a great gift for her as she love art a lot!! Especially this exhibition is from one of the world’s most influential artists, Yayoi Kusama! Furthermore, I hope she get this gift to pamper herself after all the stress from the hectic workloads and the assignments/works from the school.
It has been a hard time for her recently. Thus, hopefully I can be one of the lucky winner to get the access ticket for her as a force to motivate her to continue fight on!
